Exploring Fire Safety for PV Systems on Roofs

Mar 22, 2024

On March 22, Professor Grunde Jomaas, FRISSBE ERA Chair and Head of the Department for Research in Fire-Safe Sustainable Environments at the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG), gave a compelling webinar on Fire Safety Considerations for PV Systems on roofs. The session delved into essential concepts for managing risks, emphasizing the minimization of ignition frequency and power, as well as strategies to mitigate fire spread rates and extent. Insights from a recently published paper highlighted the potential fire hazards posed by PV modules and the necessity for further research in this area. Organized by the Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI), approximately 200 attendees participated in the webinar, demonstrating widespread interest in enhancing fire safety practices related to PV systems. This webinar serves as a crucial platform for communicating research findings to industry stakeholders and partners, facilitating knowledge exchange, and fostering internalization of fire safety practices within our organization. It underscores the importance of dissemination activities in advancing safety standards across the industry.
