As electrification accelerates, battery safety is becoming a central part of vehicle fire risk. New chemistries, alternative fuels and lightweight materials are changing how fires start, develop and are managed – and increasing the need for shared knowledge.

Since 2010, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden has hosted the International Conference on Fires in Vehicles (FIVE). The 9th edition will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 5–6 April 2027.

FIVE brings together experts from research, industry and emergency services to share insights, case studies and solutions – with growing attention to battery-related risks in modern vehicles.

The call for papers is now open! Relevant topics include:
