Nov 4, 2026

On 3rd and 4th November, the Board of the European Network of Building Research Institutes (ENBRI) met at CSTB in Grenoble, France. Dr Aleš Jug, attended together with Dr Andrej Anžlin, Head of the Department of Structures at ZAG.

At the meeting, Dr Jug presented “Plan of action for the new working group Fire and Sustainability”. The working group will be coordinated by ZAG through the FRISSBE department, and the presentation set out its scope and how it will work.

The group will connect fire safety with sustainable construction. Its focus will be on bio-based and innovative materials, timber and hybrid structures, façades, photovoltaics, battery storage and building renovation. It will also look at the fire impacts across the whole life cycle of a building, including resilience and business continuity.

The first steps will be to bring together the interested ENBRI institutes, map their expertise and agree on research priorities and a joint action plan. The aim is to develop collaborative research, Horizon Europe proposals, publications and technical guidance.

FRISSBE thanks ENBRI and CSTB for hosting the meeting, and looks forward to working with the participating institutes.
