Last week, the 10th international seminar "Fire and Explosion Hazards" took place in the Norwegian capital. One of the most important international events for fire and explosion technology and science builds on the established traditions of related conferences, which date back to the 90s. We are glad our FRISSBE project has been a small part of it.
The knowledge of technical aspects of fire and explosion hazards is the basis for safe design and operation of systems and structures and emergency response strategies in case of incidents or accidents. Understanding the physical effects that can cause harm is vital to reduce consequences and risk during incidents or accidents leading to fire and explosions. This knowledge is especially critical when new energy carriers are being introduced in to society.
On Wednesday, May 25th, the seminar program began with an invited keynote lecture by our FRISSBE ERA chair holder, Grunde Jomaas, entitled “FIRE SAFETY OF PV MODULES ON ROOFS”. He presented the comprehensive work on BAPV and concluded:
»A lot of fires are to be expected, especially with the installation pressure put on by Repower EU and the lack of appropriate testing. Who knows, perhaps even the royal palace will have PV modules on the roof soon? Then we need to discuss fire safety of cultural heritage at the same time.«
