On 23^rd and 24^th September, Dr Andrea Lucherini travelled to Edinburgh, Scotland, for two engagements at the University of Edinburgh that reflect the growing strength of FRISSBE's connections with the UK fire research community.

On 23^rd September, Dr Lucherini served as external examiner for the PhD viva of Laura Schmidt, whose thesis was entitled "Char Oxidation in Combustion of Solid Wood". The doctoral research was carried out under the supervision of Prof Rory M. Hadden and Dr Angus Law, with Dr Zak Campbell-Lochrie, Lecturer in Fire Science at the University of Edinburgh, acting as internal examiner. Char oxidation is a fundamental process in the combustion of solid wood and plays a central role in determining the fire performance of timber structural elements, making it a topic of direct relevance to FRISSBE's own research programme on timber construction and fire safety.

On the following day, 24^th September, Dr Lucherini presented to the Edinburgh Fire Research Centre, delivering a talk entitled "ZAG, the FRISSBE Department, and our Research towards a Fire-Safe Sustainable Built Environment". The presentation offered an overview of ZAG's fire research infrastructure and the FRISSBE team's ongoing work across its core research themes, including PV fire safety, battery fire hazards, timber construction, and structural fire engineering.

The University of Edinburgh has long been one of Europe's leading centres for fire safety research and education, and the visit offered a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties between FRISSBE and the Edinburgh Fire Research Centre, as well as to explore potential areas for future collaboration.
