On the 6th and 7th September 2022, Woodrise 2022 - Technical Conferences and Tours was organized by InnoRenew CoE and the University of Primorska, in partnership with the Woodrise Alliance. The conference was held on the Adriatic coast in beautiful Portorož, Slovenia, and it gathered about 250 participants from all the fields of the built environment as well as policymakers and standardisation entities related to tall wooden buildings. The 2022 congress took place under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor.

The conference showcased the excellent global practices in timber engineering and architecture with the aim to promote sustainable transformation and development of the construction sector. In 2022 the congress intensively focused on the topic of renovation, rehabilitation, and restoration of existing urban buildings with the use of wood-based technologies. Over the two days, the conference offered inspirational and showcase keynote lectures, as well as workshops and technical sessions.

The Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG) was represented by Dr Andrea Lucherini and Mrs Gizelle Danine Jamero from the Department for Research of Fire-Safe Sustainable Built Environment (FRISSBE) and Dr Boris Azinović from the Section for Timber Structures. Dr Andrea Lucherini chaired the technical session “Fire & Digitalisation”, in which he gave a presentation entitled “Towards a sustainable built environment based on fire-safe design with timber and wooden products”.

In addition, on 8th September 2022, the new ZAG Fire Laboratory was visited by international timber experts as part of one of the tours organised within Woodrise 2022. The researchers showed the new facilities and also gave a demonstration of a typical fire test for wooden products.
