14th International Congress on Fire Safety & Science (FSS)

Jun 17, 2022

On the 8th and 9th June 2022, the 14th International Congress on Fire Safety & Science (FSS) was held in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The congress was organised by the Netherlands Institute for Public Safety (NIPV) and the Foundation Fellow FSE, and it gathered about 200 experts to discuss the latest developments, results and insights of recent research in the field of fire safety engineering and innovative fire fighting.

The congress was composed of plenary lectures and break out sessions over the two days. Dr Andrea Lucherini, FRISSBE senior researcher, was invited as keynote speaker to present his most recent research outcomes obtained during his postdoctoral research period at Ghent University, Belgium. His presentation was entitled “Analysis and numerical simulations of multi-compartment fire tests for the fire safety of healthcare facilities” and it discussed how different combinations of active and passive measures can be investigated using Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to improve the fire safety of vulnerable people. More information and the final report about this project led by Dr Andrea Lucherini and Prof Bart Merci can be found on Flemish Department of Welfare, Public Health and Family (Vlaanderen Departement Welzijn, Volksgezondheid en Gezin, 2021).
