3FiRES Final Workshop

Oct 6, 2025

On 6th October , FRISSBE researcher Dr Andrea Lucherini and Dr Andrea Jurov, Nik Rus, and Kirils Simakovs, participated in the Final Workshop of the 3FiRES project, hosted by the University of Trieste.

The workshop, titled “Research on BIPV Photovoltaic Facades for Fire Spread Mechanisms, Structural Failures and Resilience Improvement Methodologies”, gathered leading experts from Italy, China, and across Europe. The event showcased the outcomes of the Italy–China bilateral project 3FiRES, focusing on the fire performance and resilience of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) façades — innovative systems combining energy generation with architectural and structural functions.

Dr Andrea Lucherini, representing the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG), delivered a presentation on “Current advances into understanding the fire performance of BIPV modular units”. His talk outlined key findings from FRISSBE’s ongoing research, including experimental and numerical studies aimed at improving fire safety in BIPV applications.

The participation of the FRISSBE PV Team, composed of Dr Andrea Jurov, Nik Rus, and Kirils Simakovs, further highlighted the department’s collaborative efforts to understand fire spread mechanisms and enhance resilience in solar-integrated building technologies. The event concluded with discussions on future research directions and opportunities for continued cooperation within this rapidly evolving field.
