Advancing Fire-Safe Sustainable Built Environments

On October 2nd, the 6th FRISSBE Forum brought together researchers and experts to discuss ongoing projects and strategic directions in fire-safe sustainable construction. The event reinforced FRISSBE’s mission to implement lasting changes at ZAG – the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute.

Key Highlights:

Project Updates & Vision:  Dr Andraž Legat and Dr Aleš Jug opened the forum with updates on the FRISSBE project and its role in advancing research excellence at ZAG.

Internal Research Projects: FRISSBE researchers presented cutting-edge studies, including:

  • SAFE-Tex – Screening fire effluents in textiles (Dr Matija Uršič)
  • EcoFLAME – Sustainable flame retardants (Zala Žarkovič)
  • 3FiRES – Investigating on BIPV photovoltaic façades for fire spread (Dr Andrea Lucherini)

ZAG’s Skillsets & Research Focus – Experts shared insights into various disciplines shaping the future of sustainable construction:

  • Forest-wood value chain and climate change (Dr Andreja Pondelak)
  • Snapshot: Departament of Structures (Tomaž Pazlar)
  • Research activities in Laboratory for metrology (Miha Hiti)

With strong industry cooperation and cutting-edge research, FRISSBE is driving structural changes to elevate fire safety and sustainability in the built environment.
