Cutting Edge conference for young researchers (CE23)

Sep 21, 2023

Today our PhD student Nik Rus attended a conference for young researchers called Cutting-Edge in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The conference took place at the Faculty for Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Ljubljana. The conference provides an affordable opportunity for young researchers (this year there was part also dedicated to high school pupils and their research projects) to get their first experiences with presenting their research.

Topics at the conference are divided into three distinct sections:

  • Science Behind the Living

  • Materials of the Future

  • Technologies for the Earth and Environments

Nik presented his poster and a short elevator pitch both titled The need for improved fire safety guidelines for rooftop PV systems.

This year's topic was Careers in Science. For the keynote speakers, the organisers invited a broad selection of researchers from various parts of the research field; from leading laboratories in academia to start-ups and established industry players but also everything in between. They came from the National Institute of Chemistry, Pipistrel, Novartis, and Juicy Marbles. Among them was also Tadeja Kosec, head of the Laboratory for Metals, Corrosion and Anti-Corrosion Protection at the Slovene National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG).
