Dr Ulises Rojas-Alva participated in the 54th International Conference on Environmental Systems (ICES 2025), held this year in Prague. The ICES conference series, which began in 1971, provides a platform for sharing scientific and technical knowledge on human life in space and other extreme environments.
The event featured technical sessions, panel discussions, a student poster competition, and published proceedings. Dr Rojas-Alva attended in his role as co-chair of Track ICES 509, Fire Safety in Spacecraft and Enclosed Habitats, and as leader of a Topical Team funded by the European Space Agency.
Human-crewed missions — particularly those planning extended stays on the Moon or Mars — face significant fire safety challenges. Addressing these issues requires further development of fire science in microgravity and reduced-gravity environments.
Dr Rojas-Alva’s participation contributes to advancing the understanding of these challenges and fostering collaboration within the international space and fire safety research community.
