In December 2023, the Slovenian fire protection association organised a seminar on the fire risks related to e-mobility. E-bikes, e-scooters, and other e-mobility devices have become common modes of transportation. Lithium-ion batteries often power these devices due to their favourable combination of low weight and high energy density. If these batteries fail, they can potentially catch fire and cause explosions.
In the seminar, Dr. Ulises Rojas Alva and Dr. Matija Uršič from ZAG presented the talk "Testing Li-ion batteries and response in the thermal runaway phase", and Dr. Aleš Jug presented the talk "Starting points for assessing risks related to e-mobility – frequency and consequences of fires and their causes. " and "Combustion dynamics of li-ion batteries and starting points for the selection of extinguishing media".
The seminar emphasised the importance of fire prevention, research and the proper choice of extinguishing media.
