On the 3rd and 4th of June 2024, Dr Andrea Lucherini and Prof Grunde Jomaas attended an Exchange of Experts (EoE) organized by the Netherlands Institute for Public Safety (NIPV). The goal of the workshop, funded by the European Commission, was to gather civil protection experts and research institutes from EU member states and neighboring countries to share experiences, gain valuable knowledge, and strengthen operational skills. The event was attended by 12 experts. Dr Lucherini presented “Emerging Hazards and Fire Safety Challenges in the Modern Sustainable Built Environment,” while Prof Jomaas gave a talk entitled “Car Park Fire Safety.”
On the two following days, 5th and 6th June 2024, Andrea and Grunde also attended the 16th International Congress on Fire Safety & Science (FSS), held at the NIPV facilities in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The congress, organized by the NIPV and the FSE Fellowship Foundation, included plenary lectures and breakout sessions and gathered about 175 experts. This conference is of interest to professionals engaged in fire safety, fire safety engineering (FSE), fire research, innovative firefighting, and education in the field of fire safety and FSE. At the congress, Prof Jomaas delivered an invited plenary talk titled “PV Fire Safety on Roofs: A Guideline for Reduced Consequences,” while Dr Lucherini conducted a workshop on “The Fire Decay and the Cooling Phase of Post-Flashover Compartment Fires” during the breakout sessions.
