Farewell to Antoine Couelier

Jan 17, 2025

Today marks the end of Antoine Couelier’s internship with the FRISSBE at ZAG. Over the past months, Antoine has demonstrated great commitment and versatility, contributing significantly to our research and activities in fire safety, material characterization, and process optimization.

During his time at FRISSBE, Antoine embraced both theoretical and practical tasks. He was actively involved in laboratory operations, assisting with tests on PV panel structures. This included assembling, conducting, and disassembling specimens for regular fire safety evaluations. To enhance efficiency, Antoine developed a Python script to automate the extraction and plotting of thermocouple measurements, which streamlined the reporting process for these tests.

Antoine also worked on modeling the evolution of heat release rates during fire tests. By analyzing recorded videos and leveraging literature, he gained hands-on experience in data analysis and coding while strengthening his understanding of fire dynamics.

In the WoDeFi project, Antoine contributed to cone calorimeter testing by preparing samples, collecting experimental data, and analyzing results. His efforts were instrumental in assessing the fire resistance of studied materials, providing valuable insights into their performance.

Antoine explored the potential of bamboo in construction by conducting material property analyses and theoretical mechanical studies on bamboo beams and structures. This task deepened his understanding of sustainable construction materials and state-of-the-art research for project proposals.

One of his notable technical contributions involved adapting a pressure transducer for Arduino to work with a Raspberry Pi, which required diving into C++, Linux, and specific Python libraries for electronic wiring. This work enhanced his hardware and coding expertise while advancing our gas velocity evaluation project in compartment fires.

We are grateful for Antoine’s hard work, innovation, and enthusiasm during his internship at FRISSBE. His contributions have been invaluable, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

Thank you, Antoine, for being part of the FRISSBE team!
