On the 5^th June 2025, Dr Andrea Lucherini attended the final conference of the COST Action HELEN Holistic Design of Taller Timber Buildings. The event took place at TalTech University in Tallinn, Estonia.

Dr Lucherini actively contributed to Working Group 3, which focused on Accidental Load Situations, and more specifically to Sub-Group 2 on Fire Safety. His engagement throughout the project has helped shape discussions on fire resilience in timber high-rise design.

The conference concluded with the announcement of an upcoming book, scheduled for publication by Springer in August 2025. Dr Lucherini is among the contributors of two chapters:

• ‘Compartment fire dynamics in taller timber buildings: guidance for performance-based fire safety engineering’ (co-authored with Dr Ian Pope, Dr Antonela Čolić, Chamith Karannagodage, and Dr Ahmed Ahmed Ali Awadallah)
• ‘Structural Fire Behaviour’ (co-authored with Dr Felix Wiesner, Dr Daniel Brandon, and Dr Pedro Palma)

The Tallinn meeting also included thematic presentations, posters on short-term scientific missions, and a lab tour, offering a comprehensive wrap-up to the multi-year research collaboration.

This marks the conclusion of the HELEN COST Action, but the discussions and outputs - technical and collaborative - will continue to influence timber construction practices across Europe and beyond.
