On Thursday, December 9, Martina Manes (University of Liverpool) presented a paper co-authored by the ERA Chair holder (Grunde Jomaas), David Rush (University of Edinburgh) and Birgitte Messerschmidt (NFPA) at the 12th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology. It was a virtual presentation, so the authors missed out on what otherwise would have been an excellent opportunity to visit Brisbane, Queensland and Australia, and to interact with the strong fire group at the University of Queensland and the other conference participants. The paper is entitled “What is the role played by fire statistics? Challenges and benefits in their application towards improved fire safety.” This research is part of the outcome of the EU FireStat project which aims to close data gaps and pave the way for pan-European fire safety efforts.
