On September 23, a press conference due of Fire Safety Month took place at our Fire Laboratory, coordinated by the Public Relations Service of the Ministry of Defence. Several key stakeholders were in attendance, including Leon Behin, Director of the Slovenian Administration for Protection and Rescue (URSZR), Zvonko Glažar, Commander of the Firefighters' Association of Slovenia, Luka Piko, Chairman of the Prevention Commission from the Association of Slovenian Professional Firefighters, and Dr Aleš Jug, President of the Slovenian Fire Safety Association. Each presented their respective activities for Fire Safety Month, highlighting the importance of fire prevention efforts in Slovenia.
During the press event, FRISSBE introduced the Department for Fire and Sustainable Built Environment Safety, underscoring its role as a key organisation responsible for fire safety research in Slovenia. Following the conference, we held two live demonstrations for the attending media outlets, including TV Slovenija, 24 Ur, Nova TV, Delo, and STA.
Dr Ulises Rojas and Dr Aleš Jug provided expert commentary from the observation room, walking the journalists through the expansion of flames during a simulated residential fire in which a trash bin ignited a sofa. Additionally, they explained the dangers of electric battery fires, showcasing a demo where an electric scooter’s battery was deliberately punctured to simulate a real-life explosion hazard. These demonstrations successfully highlighted the critical risks associated with everyday fires and modern battery technologies.
