Dr Lucherini delivers a seminar to the IFE Scotland Branch

May 27, 2025

On 27th May, Dr Andrea Lucherini, senior researcher at ZAG and assistant professor at the University of Primorska, delivered a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) seminar to the Scottish Branch of The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE). The presentation, entitled ‘Fundamentals of Intumescent Coatings for the Design of Fire-Safe Structures’, attracted about 50 attendees.

Dr Lucherini introduced key principles underpinning the performance-based design of structural elements protected with intumescent coatings. He outlined how factors such as heating conditions, substrate characteristics, initial coating thickness, and testing methodology can affect the coatings’ effectiveness in fire conditions.

The IFE, founded in 1918, is a globally recognised professional body committed to advancing fire engineering practice and supporting technical development. The seminar was part of the IFE’s ongoing efforts to provide continuous professional development opportunities for its members.
