On June 27, the IMFSE Class of 2025 marked the completion of their Master's theses with a festive Celebration Day in Ghent. The event brought together students, academic staff, alumni, and partners to reflect on the culmination of two years of international study.
Five ZAG-affiliated summer interns—El Ghalia Serghini, Rauan Adikey, Liliana Martínez, Sameed Ahmed Khan, and Akash Jyothivas—were among the graduates. ZAG’s representative Nik Rus attended the event to support them and reinforce ZAG’s ongoing collaboration with the programme.
The day began with a keynote from Gianluca De Sanctis (Basler & Hofmann), challenging graduates to question the status quo of fire safety codes. Students gave concise presentations of their thesis work, followed by lunch and a poster session. Afternoon highlights included speeches by IMFSE faculty and alumni, the proclamation of degrees, and the Best Poster Awards. The celebration concluded with a guided walking tour of Ghent and a gala dinner, cementing a strong sense of community among the next generation of fire safety engineers.
For FRISSBE, seeing our summer interns present their thesis work and graduate from IMFSE is a moment of great pride. It’s energising to witness their growth and dedication as they take confident steps forward in this critical field—and we’re thrilled FRISSBE also played a part in their journey.
