On 5th January, FRISSBE welcomed Juan Felipe as a Master’s student, joining the team for a research stay running until May.
Juan is from Colombia and is currently an Erasmus Mundus MSc student in the International Master of Fire Safety Engineering (IMFSE) at Ghent University. During his stay at FRISSBE, Juan is conducting his master’s thesis on the experimental characterisation of lithium-ion batteries, with a strong focus on battery fire safety and hazard assessment. At FRISSBE, his thesis work is supervised by Dr Ulises Rojas, who acts as his local tutor.
Juan holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, with an academic background focused on advanced mechanical engineering, fire dynamics, and mathematical and computational modelling.
Professionally, Juan has experience as a design engineer in industrial and fire safety projects, including the design and dimensioning of fire protection systems, pumping systems, and risk-based safety strategies for industrial facilities. In parallel, he has worked as a lecturer and teaching assistant, contributing to courses in engineering modelling, biomaterials, and scientific writing.
Juan aims to continue his professional and research career in the field of battery safety and energy storage fire risk, contributing to experimental research, performance-based fire safety design, and the development of safer lithium-ion battery technologies and systems.
We are pleased to welcome Juan to FRISSBE and look forward to his contributions over the coming months.
