Martin Veit publishes in International Fire and Safety Journal

Jan 9, 2025

The latest issue from January 2025 of the International Fire and Safety Journal (IFSJ), count with an article co-authored by Martin Veit and Amy Kurr, PhD student at the University of Tennessee, highlights the transformative experience of attending the 2024 Fire Fundamentals for Performance-Based Fire Safety Design Summer School in Warsaw, Poland

The Summer School, organized by Prof Grunde Jomaas (FRISSBE-ZAG) and Wojciech Węgrzyński (ITB), with support from Bogdan Racięga (Baltic Fire Laboratory), brought together early-career fire safety engineers and researchers from around the world to discuss key concepts in fire safety engineering. Over six days, participants engaged in lectures, laboratory visits, live demonstrations, and networking events aimed at strengthening technical competencies in fire protection engineering.

The article, featured on pages 76-79 of the journal, details how the Summer School addressed critical industry challenges, such as overcoming technical silos, enhancing competency standards, and promoting educational support. It also emphasizes the importance of fostering collaboration across disciplines and geographies to advance fire safety science.

The Summer School was not only a technical learning opportunity but also a platform for building lasting professional connections. One notable outcome was the creation of the Women in Fire Engineering group, aimed at supporting female professionals in fire safety.

This publication underscores the impact of FRISSBE's mission to advance fire safety research and education. It reflects our commitment to shaping the next generation of fire safety engineers through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
