Feb 28, 2024

FRISSBE, together with 30+ industry and research partners, signed a letter to the executive vice-president of the European Commision for Interinstitutional Relations, Mr. Maroš Šefčovič.

The letter was also sent to the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Mr. Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Ms. Elisa Ferreira, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for An Economy that Works for People, Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis, Chair of Committee on Industry, Research & Energy, Mr. Cristian-Silviu Buşoi and Vice Chair of Committee on Industry, Research & Energy, Prof. Zdzisław Krasnodębski.

The letter was sent by Drasko Veselinovic, president of SBRA, and outlines some of the concerns that the industry and research partners have identified within the related to a successfull implentation of the measures of the European Green Deal. The letter starts:

“Fire and its consequences pose a significant threat to a safe and just implementation of the green transition and circular economy. Together, business and research communities are increasingly concerned about the lack of attention to how solutions necessary for the green transition may create new fire risks and potentially hinder the desired progress towards a safe and sustainable economy.”

The three calls for action were:

  1. Establishing a centralized organizational unit to ensure a coordinated effort by Member States with respect to fire safety,
  2. Establishing dedicated “fast-track” calls within the EU’s research programs to mitigate fire risks related to the Green Deal, and
  3. Integrating EU-funded research aimed at mitigating the potential risks arising from approved EU strategies with a professional development strategy that aligns with the requirements associated with these emerging risks.
