Dec 4, 2024

The Energy Transition Safety Forum 2024, held in Helsinki, Finland, and organized by The Finnish Association of Fire Officers in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior and the Confederation of Finnish Industries, addressed critical aspects of safety in the evolving energy landscape.

The event focused on Preparedness, Prevention, and Response for renewable energy-related risks. It featured insights from researchers and front-line experts who shared their experiences and the latest research on various topics, including Lithium-ion batteries, energy storage, electric vehicles, and solar panels.

One of the keynote speakers was our researcher, Nik Rus. During his presentation, titled "Solar cells: Solutions for fire risk reduction of rooftop PV systems," Nik discussed the latest parameters that should be considered to efficiently minimize fire risks associated with photovoltaic systems.

Other notable speakers, for the day of the event held in the English language, included Marcus Rasmussen from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Max Lakkonen from IFAB - Institute for Applied Fire Research, Juho Helander from Jensen Hughes Finland, Tom Hessels from NIPV, and Matthias Van de Veire from CERN Fire and Rescue Service. The event concluded with a roundtable discussion, where the keynote speakers delved into the questions and knowledge gaps highlighted during the sessions.
