Princeton-Combustion Institute Summer School

Jun 27, 2025

From 22th to 27th June, Dr Andrea Jurov and Martin Veit attended the Princeton-Combustion Institute Summer School on Combustion and the Environment, held at Princeton University, New Jersey, USA. The event gathered around 120 participants from across the world and offered a high-level overview of key topics in combustion science, with a strong emphasis on environmental impact.

The lectures covered subjects such as soot formation, atmospheric aerosols, and experimental methods in fire research. These topics are highly relevant to fire safety science, particularly in understanding how fires affect not only buildings and materials but also the wider environment. With growing attention on the environmental consequences of combustion — from air quality to long-term sustainability — the insights gained during the summer school will support ongoing research at FRISSBE.

The summer school was organised by Professor Chung K. Law, a leading figure in the field of combustion science and former supervisor of Professor Grunde Jomaas. Meeting Prof Law and experiencing his enthusiasm for the field and his dedication to educating young researchers left a strong impression.

This experience has been a valuable step for both Dr Andrea and Martin, contributing directly to their current work in fire research and safety.
