In a time where firefighter safety is of ever-increasing importance, it is essential to facilitate research that can improve their safety while performing their duties. We are therefore proud to announce a collaboration with the Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF) that focus’ on improving the standardization and assessment of thermal imaging cameras (TICs).
The project is entitled “Measuring Thermal Image Quality for Fire Service Applications”, and the goal is to identify assessment metrics for thermal imaging camera quality that are easier to determine than current metrics and gives repeatable results.
The project is a collaboration between the FRISSBE department at ZAG and the FPRF, with Martin Veit as the student researcher, under the guidance of Prof Grunde Jomaas, Prof Bart Merci and Dr Andrea Lucherini. Included in the technical panel, is Craig Gestler from MSA Safety, Christopher Sampl from Fairfax Country Fire and Rescue Department, Ken Holland (staff liaison for NFPA1801), and Prof Steven Verstockt and Dr Christian Gryspeert from Ghent University. The project manager is Sreenivasan Ranganathan from the FPRF.
