Rising Stars at ZAG: Supporting the Next Generation of Researchers

May 21, 2026

At ZAG, scientific excellence is built not only through results, but through people. Fostering an environment where early-career researchers can develop their ideas, gain international experience, build meaningful collaborations, and take on new challenges is a cornerstone of the institute's long-term research strategy.

As part of ZAG's internal monitoring and evaluation of research activities, three researchers have been recognised as Rising Stars: Martin Veit, Dr Anja Ilenič, and Dr Doron Hekič. This recognition highlights researchers who demonstrate strong development and growing impact within their respective fields. Martin Veit and Dr Anja Ilenič have additionally been recognised as Outgoing Researchers, reflecting their active engagement with the international research community.

The FRISSBE project is proud to count Martin Veit among those recognised. His recent publication in the International Fire & Safety Journal is a testament to the rigorous research culture that the project has helped to cultivate at ZAG.

ZAG has also recognised its most cited researchers, a list that includes Prof Grunde Jomaas, ERA Chair of the FRISSBE project, an acknowledgement of the scientific impact that the project has generated since its inception.

These recognitions reflect the broader support structure that ZAG provides to its researchers: from mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration, to participation in international projects, conferences, and research initiatives. Young researchers play a vital role in shaping the future direction of science and innovation, and by investing in their development, institutions help transform promising ideas into long-term contributions with real societal impact.

Congratulations to Martin, Dr Ilenič, and Dr Hekič on this well-deserved recognition, and best wishes for their continued work.
