On the 27th June 2025, Dr Andrea Lucherini delivered an in-person and online seminar titled “Towards Understanding Structural Timber Behaviour During the Fire Decay and Cooling Phases of Post-Flashover Fire”, hosted by the SFPE UQ Student Chapter at the University of Queensland St. Lucia campus, Brisbane, Australia.
The presentation focused on how structural timber behaves during the lesser-studied decay and cooling phases of a post-flashover fire. While most fire design approaches concentrate on fully developed fire conditions, Dr Lucherini explored experimental and modelling work that sheds light on what happens during these phases. His talk provided key insights relevant to performance-based design of timber structures, highlighting the importance of considering all stages of fire in engineering practice.
