SFPE IMFSE Student Chapter Webinar: Timber Structures and Fire Safety

May 15, 2024

On May 15th 2024, FRISSBE's Senior Researcher Dr Andrea Lucherini, and Antonela Čolić, PhD Research student in Structural Fire Safety Engineering at The University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom) delivered an insightful overview talk entitled “Timber Structures and Fire Safety: Possibilities and Limitations – Research insights”. Hosted by the SFPE IMFSE Student Chapter in Belgium, this webinar provided valuable insights into the complexities and challenges related to modern timber structures from a fire safety perspective.

During the webinar, Dr Lucherini shared his expertise in fire safety engineering and sustainable built environments, focusing on advanced strategies for ensuring fire safety in timber structures. Around 40 attendees had the opportunity to explore topics such as the behaviour of wood and timber as a material at elevated temperatures, the design of structural timber elements in fire conditions, and some insights on ongoing research, like research related to the bond line performance led by Antonela and the performance of timber structures during the fire decay and cooling phase led by Andrea

Dr Lucherini's engaging presentation sparked thoughtful discussions and offered practical insights for enhancing fire safety practices in timber construction. His contributions underscored FRISSBE's commitment in advancing research and solutions in the field of fire safety engineering.

We extend our gratitude to Dr Andrea Lucherini for his valuable insights and commend him for representing FRISSBE with excellence at this webinar.
