On 22nd May, the ZAG Fire Laboratory in Logatec welcomed a group of students from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Ljubljana. The students are enrolled in the Technical Safety study programme, the only study programme in Slovenia that includes dedicated coursework on fire safety topics at both bachelor's and master's level, making the visit a natural extension of their academic training.
During the visit, the students received a comprehensive overview of the activities carried out at the fire laboratory, spanning the full range of work performed at the facility. This included standard material testing in the materials laboratory as well as large-scale furnace testing, giving the students a first-hand impression of the experimental infrastructure available at ZAG.
The visit also covered the research and development activities of the FRISSBE team. Researcher Nik Rus presented the ongoing work on fire safety of rooftop photovoltaic systems, one of FRISSBE's most active research areas, explaining how the team investigates fire behaviour and risk in PV installations and what role experimental testing plays in generating evidence for guidelines and standards.
Visits of this kind are an important part of FRISSBE's commitment to knowledge transfer and to inspiring the next generation of fire safety professionals. With fire safety education still limited in Slovenia, the Technical Safety programme at the University of Ljubljana represents a vital pipeline of future talent for the field, and we were glad to offer its students a look at where research and practice meet.
