The FRISSBE (Fire-safe Sustainable Built Environment, Slovene: “Požarno-varno tajnostno grajeno okolje”) project started in January 2021. Due to the COVID related restrictions the official event had to be delayed and was organized in June 2021 in the premises of ZAG's Laboratory for structures. The event gathered representatives of Ministries, FRISSBE interactive ecosystem, relevant industry members, researchers, topic related associations and press. We successfully gathered all 3 coordinators of currently ongoing ERA Chair projects in Slovenia.
Dr. Andraž Legat, project coordinator, dr. Tomaž Boh, Director General of the Directorate for Science at the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, and dr. Aleš Žnidarič, director of ZAG held welcome speeches where they stressed the importance of the research sector and scientific excellence in Slovenia and wider to increase the scientific and research reputation of Slovenia. All of them said that European funding mechanisms are great supporters of science and are complementary to funds that are devoted to research and science development in Slovenia.
This was followed by lectures on the importance of the fire related researchheld by dr. Jose L. Torero, Professor & Head of UCL Department of Civil, Environmental, Geomatic & Environmental Engineering, University College London, Faculty of Engineering; presentation of the FRISSBE project held by dr. Urška Kropf, project manager; presentation of the research foreseen in the FRISSBE project and equipment in the fire laboratory in Logatec by Friderik Knez, Head of the Department of Building Physics; and presentation of the building of the fire laboratory in Logatec that will host the FRISSBE team by Marko Brezigar, Assistant Director for Technical Affairs at ZAG.
The take home message was given by Mr. Friderik Knez, ZAG's Head of the Department of Building Physics, who aims for ZAG Fire laboratory to become leading laboratory for fire research in Southern Europe by the year 2025 and FRISSBE project will have a visible contribution on the way.
