Ulises Rojas Alva Discusses Lithium-Ion Battery Safety at GREMO 2024 Conference

May 15, 2024

At the recent Slovenian Automotive Development Conference (GREMO) 2024 held on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, in Ljubljana, Dr Ulises Rojas Alva from FRISSBE and the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG) delivered a compelling presentation.

With the topic: "The Safety Challenges of Lithium-Ion Battery Technology: Can We Address Them?", Dr Rojas Alva's insightful presentation addressed the safety challenges associated with lithium-ion battery (LIB) technology. He explored the risks of thermal runaway and fire incidents posed by LIB cells and battery modules. Through scientific analysis, Dr Rojas Alva discussed potential solutions and performance-based design approaches to mitigate these risks effectively.

Accompanying Dr Rojas Alva, Dr Andraž Legat, FRISSBE Project Coordinator, shared valuable insights on "New Materials and Corrosion." Attendees gained valuable insights into the safety considerations surrounding lithium-ion battery technology and explored potential pathways for addressing these critical challenges.

The director of ZAG, Dr Aleš Žnidarič, who is also the president of the Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories (FEHRL), attended the conference as well. Aleš mentioned that both he and other attendees were impressed with Ulises' presentation and his ability to introduce himself in Slovene, adding a personal touch that resonated with the audience.
