As part of the bilateral research project between Slovenia and Turkey Prof Hüseyin Sivrikaya from Bartin University’s Faculty of Forestry arrived last week for a one-month research visit at the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG).
The project, coordinated by Dr Laetitia Marrot on the Slovenian side and Prof Hüseyin Sivrikaya on the Turkish side, focuses on Improving the fire performance of wooden constructions through charring and sustainable bio-based fire-retardant processes. Financed by ARIS, the two-year collaboration (May 2025 – April 2027) aims to develop innovative wood treatments that enhance fire resistance using environmentally friendly techniques and bio-based coatings.
Since his arrival, Prof Sivrikaya has been actively collaborating with the FRISSBE Project and the ZAG Materials Department, carrying out several experiments related to wood combustion and fire retardancy. He also participated in the 6th FRISSBE Forum, where he engaged with Dr Andreja Pondelak, ZAG’s representative of the research group Forest-Timber Chain and Climate Change: Transition to a Circular Bioeconomy.
This bilateral cooperation strengthens scientific ties between ZAG and Bartin University, contributing to the broader goal of advancing sustainable construction materials and improving the fire safety performance of wooden structures through innovative, eco-conscious solutions.
